Matthew 6:33 - COMMENTARY
In this verse, Lord Jesus Christ is giving us an important principle to change our entire outlook towards life. Generally, if we observe, man's attention is mostly limited to his physical needs such as food, clothing, and future security, but in today's modern age, man has gone beyond all these and is now running madly after unnecessary things such as Power, Money, Sex and Fame and he spends all his energy and time on these things. Both these needs are only worldly and not spiritual and have nothing to do with spirituality. On the contrary, our Savior says that the real concern of any man should not be about all these things, but about the Kingdom of God, there should be hunger, desire, eagerness and passion for that which altogether leads to the good of a man whether it is in this life or the life to come. And when he does this, God will fulfill his worldly needs as well.
His Kingdom - By this Christ means that God, the Creator of all creation and I am a beautiful creation in His image, the Almighty God is the King of our lives, and so we are subject to His commands but willingly and not by force because He is free and He has made us free. So when Christ says His Kingdom, He is actually talking about the inner kingdom within us, which is based on love, holiness, and truth. Where we give God the highest place in our lives, and give our lives under His control. So we follow His will and give priority to serving Him. As Christians, we should first give priority to God's things and His will because that is the most important.
His Righteousness - When we make God the King of our hearts and minds, we no longer have to limit ourselves to just following His rules, such as do not steal, do not kill, do not commit adultery, but strive to be like Him day by day, reflecting His holiness, greatness, and goodness in everything we do, whether we think, speak, or do good deeds. And yes, this righteousness does not come from any outward display but from the renewal of our mind, heart, and spirit. This is what our Creator expects from us, and He also tells us the benefits in return.
All These Things You Will Have - Our Savior also promised that if we make God's kingdom and His righteousness a priority in our lives, God Himself will provide us with all the essentials of life, such as food, clothing, and other necessities. This is freedom from our worries and an invitation to a life of faith. Because all these things are worried about by the Gentiles. But this does not mean that we do not have to do any work.
In simple words, we must have our priorities clear. We must always put the kingdom of God and His righteousness above worldly concerns in our spiritual life of faith in Christ and when we give first place to the kingdom of God and His righteousness, our material needs will be naturally met. Worldly things are important but not more than God; they are only a convenient appendage to us, which is of little importance compared to the kingdom of God. We must set our hearts on the heavenly life, which will overall help us to control our worldly desires.
Matthew 6:33 - APPLYING IN LIFE
As Christians, our first and foremost priority in life should be to seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness. We must avoid thinking that livelihood, jobs, dreams, relationships, money, or social recognition are the most important things, because the Lord Jesus clearly told us that if we put God and His will first, then all these things that people today are running around for will be provided by God Himself.
Many of our worries in life increase because we try to get first what God has promised us as an “extra bonus” if we seek Him first. When we put His presence, His plan, and His righteousness first, we find direction, purpose, and stability in life. This does not mean that we don’t work hard or give up responsibilities, but it does mean that every task, every decision, every day begins with first considering: Is this pleasing to God? Is what I am saying, thinking, doing or going to do, advancing His kingdom?
Often we get motivated to achieve something, but remember that motivation is limited to a few moments only, but to do or achieve anything, it is very important to have discipline within us, and when it comes to God, heaven, salvation of the soul, then this becomes an even more serious issue for us, because a person can achieve more in his life by being disciplined, but what about that more which distances him from his own Creator, which prevents him from thinking about his Creator and becomes the cause of destruction of his soul.
Therefore, we who have come to know that supreme bliss and the ultimate truth, should we also live like them and if we are living like that, then there is no difference between the people of the world and us. Therefore, a Christian should spend time in prayer every day, delve deeply into the Word, concentrate on spiritual matters and stay away from those things which distance him from God. Thus when we sincerely and obediently give God the first place, God Himself promises us that He will invisibly fulfill our needs whether physical, emotional or spiritual. So no worries, God comes first. He is our support, He is our provider, He is our purpose, He is our goal and He is our rest. Living this promise means God first, everything else later. Amen.
Matthew 6:33 - PRAYER
God, my loving and living Heavenly Father, I come before You today humble my heart. I know that You are the true source of all my needs. Thank You father that You promised me that if I seek Your Kingdom and Your righteousness first, You will provide me with everything I need.
Father, open my eyes to see You as my first and last priority. Give me strength to seek Your Kingdom, away from the fleeting riches, worries, and vanities of this world.
Just as King Solomon did not ask for wealth, glory, or power, but for wisdom to serve Your people, which You gladly give to anyone who asks. You gave Solomon the same wisdom, and along with it, you gave him what he did not ask for. So I seek Your ways and will today. Fill me with Your grace. And Father, whenever I feel tired or withdrawn in my life, remind me of this promise: “He who trusts in You will never return empty-handed.” I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
